Always thoroughly rinse your equipment in fresh water after each
dive. If you allow it to dry out before rinsing its too late the damage
is done. If you are unable to rinse in fresh water keep it wet until you
can. After rinsing for 20mins while working all the functions, change
the water and leave to soak. Look at the edges of any indents or protrusions
and check for salt or dirt deposits this is a sure sign that you are not
rinsing enough. I often take a small soft paintbrush to brush the equipment
down while rinsing, this speeds up the cleaning process and accesses parts
that are difficult to reach, but extreme care must be taken not to drag
lubricant away or to leave behind bristles from your brush. Keep an eye
out for signs of scratching or surface pitting this could be serious and
may require expert inspection. Check the equipment for large or hard pieces
of debris, if present try washing in warm water and rinse off in fresh.
